July 24: L'Alpe d'Huez di nuovo

Profile of today's TdF stage:

Today's journal entry:

Today was a rest day at the top of l'Alpe d'Huez. Dick Powell had thrown down the gauntlet last night of a handicapped competition climbing l'Alpe d'Huez again. I was pretty sure I wasn't going to bite. Phil had to do it. But first, we had to do laundry so we'd have clothing to wear!

We found a lavenderie, put our clothing in the wash, and then walked around town, checking out all the stores for souvenirs (of course!). We returned to finish our laundry, and it was time for lunch.

After a quick lunch, Phil descended to climb the hill again. I hung out with Kathy and Payton, and we just walked around town. A pretty lazy day (for me), except lots of walking up and down the hill. L'Alpe d'Huez is a very hilly town, and our hotel was at the top of the hill. So there was lots of walking to be done.

Phil finished his climb back up l'Alpe d'Huez around 4, while Kathy, Payton and I were finishing our ice creams.

A bunch of us met and went out to a nice dinner in the village before retiring for the night. It was nice to have a relaxing day!
